I figured I should see at least one Bollywood movie while in Mumbai. Unfortunately it's the wrong season for movies. It seems it's the wrong season for everything. Everyone's glued to cricket right now so this is when the release the really bad movies. I fell asleep five minutes in and woke up when the lights came on for intermission. Apparently it was really bad and everyone was eager to leave without seeing the second half.
Now on to actual sighseeing. Cousin Mita and her husband, Ketan, drove me all over Mumbai showing me the different neighborhoods and pointing out the various points of interest, mostly grand old buildings from the time to the British Raj. Just about everything has been renamed after Chhatrapati Shivaji. He was a famous Marathi leader who grew the Marati empire to capture 1/3 of India from the Mughuls back in the 17th century. Towards the end of the afternoon we headed down to Hanging Gardens, in Valkeshwar neighborhood, for a stroll. Ketan and I went off on an exploration of Haji Ali's tomb which is a mausoleum on a small man-made island in a bay with a very crowded walkway packed with vendors and pilgrims. We balanced it all out with a trip to the Hindu Mahalaxmi Temple next door.
